| Baldur Farm is located a couple
of miles south of River Falls, Wisconsin. The farm consists of 200 acres
of pasture, woods, and tillable land. Maureen Ash and Rich Purdy work the
farm with their two children, ancient tractors, and Suffolk horses. The farm is
certified organic with Midwest Organic Services Association (M.O.S.A.). The main crops in 2010 were garlic and wheat. Garlic varieties are Asian Tempest, Polish Jenn, and Armenian. The Wheat being grown is a variety called Glenn, which is a hard red spring wheat noted for its high protein and baking quality. We market the fresh garlic through the local food co-op and sometimes the farmers market. Maureen grinds the wheat and uses it in her baking see Red Horse Bakery for more information on the the artisan bread baked in a wood-fired brick oven. We usually have a few Suffolk horses for sale. Buyers should have adequate pasture; good safe fencing; and experience in keeping and using horses. Persons without experience should have a mentor or take one of the many courses available to prospective teamsters. We will be happy to refer prospective buyers to clients who have purchased horses from us in the past if you are interested in the quality of horse and service you may expect to receive from us. |
